Stuart Models is the world's oldest company still producing model steam engines. The company's beginnings can be traced back to the late 1800s when Mr. Stuart Turner designed his now famous No. 1 engine. He drew up the patterns which were then sent away for casting, and on their return he proceeded to carefully "machine up" the parts and was soon showing the finished engine at local exhibitions.
Machine, Assemble, or just take out of the box and run. Stuart engines can be purchased as unmachined kits, machined kits ready to assemble, or complete finished engines.
Level 1 & 2 unmachined kits contain all the materials and fixings necessary to build the engine.
Level 3 & 4 unmachined kits are generally supplied with castings and fixings, but no bar stock.
Level 5 unmachined kits are either particularly complicated or require large machinery to complete.
Machined kits come with all components
turned, milled, drilled and threaded allowing you to finish
the model with no more than a set of wrenches, a screwdriver, a selection of small files,
and a paint brush.
Finished Engines are assembled, painted, tested, and "run in" on compressed air at the factory.
Sulphur Springs Steam Models, LLC. will initially be stocking some of the Level 1 unmachined and machined kits. All of the Stuart Models line of engines and power plants are available through Sulphur Springs Steam Models, LLC. as "Special Order" items.
